Casanova and Actona Venezia stools - Recovered seats & Backs.

Casanova and Actona Venezia stools - Recovered seats & Backs.

Casanova stools were very popular a few years ago. We sold over 10,000 over a period of 6 or 7 years. However, sadly, the manufacturers discontinued them.

Over the years, we have been approached by many customers enquiring if we could supply replacement seats and/or backs. They told us that the bases were in good condition, but the seats and backs were damaged. They were loath to throw out the stools because they were so comfortable. We did hold spare seats and backs so that we could satisfy this demand. However, all of our stock is sold out now.

But don't despair, because we can offer an alternative solution. We can re-cover your existing seats and backs using a top-rated faux leather called Aston. This material has a Martindale rub test rating of 1 million rubs, which is huge. I should explain that the Martindale rub test is undertaken on a machine which has something like a shoe on a leg. The material to be tested is attached to the machine, which is set in motion. The “shoe” scuffs the material, and a counter records the number of scuffs or rubs before the material wears out.

Anything above 15,000 rubs is classified as suitable for contract use. That is for chairs or stools located in commercial premises like offices, shops, hotels, etc. So 1,000,000 rubs is massively above that minimum rating.

Aston Faux leather has a choice of 100 colours: -

We have sample cards just like the above with small cuttings of Aston Faux leather in all colours. We are happy to post these to

you, but we do request that you return them once you have selected the colour you want.

We do not finish the re-covered seats and backs in exactly the same way.

We cut out two panels of Aston Faux Leather, the correct shape for the back. Then we lay them on top of each other with outer surfaces facing inwards and touching each other. We sew around three sides to create something like a sock. Then, we turn the "sock" inside out so that the outer surfaces are facing out and the cut edges are inside the sock.

We strip off all the old worn material from the back, ending with the plywood shaped interior. Then we add new foam before pulling the sock down over the plywood and stapling the open end of the sock on the bottom of the inside back, where it will be hidden by the seat.  (See photos below)

                                                                                       Top of the back

As far as the seat is concerned, we simply wrap the fabric over the seat and staple it underneath with black cloth to hide the staples and cut edges.

If you want your existing seats and backs to be recovered, we request that you separate the seat from the stool base, then remove the steel frame from under the seat and undo the two bolts holding the back to the steel frame. So, you will end up with 2 seats and 2 separate backs. Then please find a suitable sturdy box to pack them for transport by carrier. Once they are packed and ready, if you let us know, we will arrange for a carrier to pick up the box and deliver it to our upholsterer. Please do not send any bolts or nuts in case they get lost. Keep them all safely, ready to reassemble the recovered stools.

Once the work is completed, we will return them to you by carrier once more.
